Jiu Jitsu for Good:
Building Opportunities Through Martial Arts
The Beginning of a Mission
In 2022, Professor Junior Fernandes and his wife decided to create something that went far beyond the mats. With years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a strong commitment to their community, they founded Jiu Jitsu for Good — a project designed to transform lives by combining martial arts, education, and opportunity.
Their vision was clear: Jiu Jitsu is not only a sport, but also a powerful tool to develop discipline, respect, and resilience while opening doors to a better future.
Supporting Athletes in Competition
One of the main pillars of Jiu Jitsu for Good has been helping athletes participate in championships. Many talented students face financial and bureaucratic challenges when trying to compete at regional, national, or international levels. The project steps in to bridge this gap, assisting with registrations, fees, and the entire process of getting athletes prepared to represent their teams.
By removing obstacles, the initiative allows young competitors to focus on what really matters: training hard, stepping on the mat, and giving their best performance.
Education Beyond the Mats
Jiu Jitsu for Good also understands that personal growth goes beyond athletic achievement. Since its foundation, the project has been offering free English classes twice a week to its community.
These classes are designed to empower students with language skills that can broaden their horizons, whether in education, travel, or professional opportunities. By learning English, athletes and community members gain the ability to connect with the wider world — something that strengthens their confidence both on and off the mats.
Helping Athletes Reach the World Stage
Another crucial aspect of the project has been providing support in the process of obtaining visas for international competitions. Competing abroad often represents a life-changing experience, giving athletes the chance to showcase their skills on the global stage and gain visibility in the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Professor Junior Fernandes and his wife have worked tirelessly to make sure talented athletes don’t miss these opportunities due to paperwork or lack of guidance. With their help, many competitors have been able to travel, represent their teams, and inspire others in their communities.
A Legacy of Growth and Opportunity
Through Jiu Jitsu for Good, Junior and his wife have built more than a project — they have built a movement that combines discipline, education, and opportunity. The initiative continues to grow, touching lives and proving that martial arts is not just about fighting techniques, but about shaping better individuals and stronger communities.
Every class, every competition, and every opportunity provided is a reminder that Jiu Jitsu truly has the power to change lives for the better.
